LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lynchburg Police took a Roanoke man into custody after a standoff that lasted more than two hours Thursday morning. Upon arrival, officers said they attempted to speak to Jackson before he barricaded himself in a house with other people. According to authorities, members of the Lynchburg Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Team spent hours talking to Jackson and were able to deescalate the situation. Eventually, authorities were able to take Jackson into custody peacefully. Unrelated to Thursday’s standoff, Jackson had the following outstanding warrants out of Roanoke City:Two counts of malicious woundingPossession of a firearm by a convicted felonUse of a firearm in the commission of a felonyAssaultBrandishing a firearmPolice said additional warrants are pending.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. – An incident that started as an assault and turned into a standoff ended when authorities found the man suspected in the crimes, dead inside his home. The situation started just before 10 a.m. Saturday, when a 28-year-old woman reported that her mother’s boyfriend, Purdue, was at her home in the 3200 block of Green Hill Drive, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Negotiators from the Sheriff's Office made continuous attempts to contact Purdue without success. Next, investigators obtained a search warrant to enter his home. Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or the Crimestoppers Program at 63-CRIME (632-7463).
