Mylyjael Poteat’s turnaround jumper put the Hokies up by three with 27 seconds left in regulation but twice in the final seconds the Hokies made only one of two free throws. Trailing by three with four seconds left, Syracuse’s Jaquan Carlos took advantage, hitting a 3-pointer from about 25 feet to force overtime, beating the buzzer by half a second.

Rechsteiner was fouled with 27 seconds left and made both free throws for a 61-56 lead. He made four more free throws in the next 23 seconds, the last two for a 65-61 lead with four seconds remaining.
